Z. Hamilton Avery, LCSW, BC-TMH, CMT, CYT-1,000, TIYT, is a psychotherapist, coach, educator, speaker, and integrative wellness practitioner with more than 15 years of interdisciplinary experience across mental health, healthcare, crisis services, education, and wellness.
Z's professional background spans outpatient psychotherapy, integrated primary care, community mental health, mobile crisis response, 911 emergency communications, hospice and end-of-life care, coaching, group facilitation, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, massage and bodywork, and complementary health practices. This range of experience informs an approach to education that considers mental health and well-being within the broader contexts of the body, relationships, identity, environment, healthcare, community, and everyday life.
As an educator and speaker, Z develops and facilitates presentations, classes, workshops, trainings, retreats, and other educational and experiential programs. Areas of focus include mental health and well-being, stress and burnout, anxiety and depression, trauma and PTSD, suicide prevention and crisis intervention, chronic illness and pain, grief and loss, mindfulness and meditation, self-compassion, resilience, coping skills, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, neurodiversity, behavioral health, and integrative mind-body approaches.
Z's programs are designed to make research, theory, and professional knowledge understandable and useful. Depending on the topic and setting, programs may combine accessible education with discussion, reflection, case examples, experiential exercises, mindfulness, movement, guided practice, and practical skill building. Participants often leave with handouts, worksheets, workbooks, or other resources that extend learning beyond the presentation itself.
Z has worked across clinical, healthcare, crisis, community, and educational environments and brings that interdisciplinary perspective to audiences that include healthcare and behavioral health professionals, social workers, therapists and counselors, helping professionals, educators and students, nonprofit and community organizations, workplaces, caregivers, wellness communities, and general audiences.
Their approach is humanistic, person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, inclusive, and practical. Whether discussing suicide prevention, trauma, burnout, mindfulness, chronic illness, or integrative well-being, Z aims to create learning experiences that respect complexity without making the material inaccessible. Audiences are encouraged not only to understand the subject differently, but also to leave with ideas and tools they can put into practice.
